The US Department of the Interior has given the green light to the Greenlink West Transmission Project in Nevada. This project will see the creation of a new 525 kV transmission line spanning 350 miles from Las Vegas to Yerington, increasing Nevada's grid capacity significantly. Crossing federal, state, Tribal, and private lands in seven counties, the project aims to carry up to 4,000 MW of clean energy, powering over 4.8 million homes once completed.

Construction is set to begin in early 2022, with a target completion date of May 2027. The project will connect rural renewable energy sources to urban centers like Las Vegas and Reno, addressing inefficiencies in energy distribution. Alongside the Greenlink North line, the project is expected to generate economic activity and create jobs in the state.

The addition of three 345 kV lines from Yerington to the Reno area is also part of the project plans, with Greenlink North expected to be operational by December 2028.
